E-Bikes Take the Lead in UK’s Bike Share Programs
For the first time in the UK, e-bikes have overtaken traditional bikes in bike share programs. There are now over 25,000 e-bikes available, a significant increase from just 12,000 a year ago. Currently, 59% of all bike share hires are e-bikes, underlining a shift towards these convenient and efficient modes of transportation, especially in urban settings. The rise in e-bike usage has also been linked to increased cycling frequency, which promotes better physical and mental health among users.
Surge in UK E-Bike Thefts with West Yorkshire Leading the Statistics
UK e-bike thefts have dramatically increased, with a 103% rise in the past year, significantly outpacing the theft rates of traditional bikes. West Yorkshire has emerged as a hotspot, reflecting a broader trend where e-bike thefts now constitute 6.2% of all bike thefts, a steep rise from previous years. This escalation is attributed to the higher value and demand for e-bikes, making them prime targets for theft.
